My husband is originally from Kirkland Lake, Ontario. He decided to take a road trip to revisit and show our daughter and me his childhood town. It’s been thirty years since his last visit to his family’s cottage.
It was my first time visiting the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region so far north.
It’s about 800km from Montreal, which is a little too long to drive in one day for a single driver. I haven’t driven in Canada at all, even though I have a driver’s licence.
We stopped at Mont-Laurier and Rouyn-Noranda before getting to our destination. On the way back, we stopped at Val-d’Or.
The map shows one of the protected areas (les réserves fauniques) that we drove through. It was three long hours of almost nothing but forest.
